Cypress and St John Physical Therapy combine forces
Acquisition of St John Physical Therapy unites leading clinics in St. John Parish
After nearly 35 years treating patients in St. John Parish, Woody Norsworthy and St John Physical Therapy will join forces with Cypress Physical Therapy to serve the community together. Nearly fifteen years ago, SJPT and Norsworthy was the first employer of Cypress founder, Chris Cancienne, upon graduating from PT school in 2011 where he worked alongside Norsworthy until deciding to open Cypress five years later.
After the official transition at the end of February, SJPT patients will be treated at Cypress but will see the familiar faces of SJPT as the entire SJPT staff joins the Cypress family in LaPlace, lead by Clinic Director Donnie Savoie. While Norsworthy steps back from active clinic ownership into a supporting role, the smooth transition of patient treatments is the main focus of both therapy teams.
Woody Norsworthy opened St John Physical Therapy in 1992 and provided physical and occupational therapy to the residents of the area for over three decades. “After over thirty years of full time practicing, I’m looking forward to supporting Cypress as they continue to provide quality care to their and SJPT’s patients. It is a great twist of history that I can entrust my patients to Cypress’ founder, Chris Cancienne, who I mentored fifteen years ago and have watched as he expanded Cypress across Louisiana and into Texas. I’m planning my first long vacation in decades; but, I’ll be continuing to treat at Cypress and look forward to seeing my patients, old and new, on their road to recovery,” said Norsworthy.
“SJPT has always held a special spot in my heart and career journey. So, to be able to bring SJPT into the Cypress network is a full circle moment for me and I know it will be a good thing for Cypress, SJPT, Woody and his team, but most importantly for the patients who have trusted both brands for years. Cypress turns 10 years old later this year, and having my mentor join the Cypress team is definitely going to make the next ten years even stronger,” said Cypress founder Chris Cancienne.
Chris Cancienne and Buddy Boe launched Cypress Physical Therapy with its first location in LaPlace, LA in 2016 and soon partnered with Dustin Roussel to open a clinic in Gramercy, LA in 2017. Immediately before the pandemic, Cypress partnered with Jonathan Pecoraro to open a location in Hammond, LA and worked through the pandemic to open in February 2021, holding construction design and update meetings by Zoom. In 2022, Cypress partnered with Phillip Richard to open its first location outside Louisiana in Orange, TX. 2023 brought Cypress to Luling with Patrick Hennessey as the local partner who also opened Cypress’ Kenner location in 2025. In 2024, Cypress purchased Revive Physical Therapy and brought on Jeremy Catoire as the partner for their new clinic in Gonzales.
